Very little of the filming took place in the actual mansion. The mansion's design in reality is extremely cramped, making filming very difficult. As such, most of the mansion's interior needed to be re-created on soundstages.

During their conversation, the Boston spiritualist told Sarah that there was a curse on her family. The Winchester family had spread evil and violence around the world with their guns, and now, spirits were seeking vengeance. According to the spiritualist, the spirits had taken the lives of her husband and daughter.

According to the Web site, there are two tours. The basic tour is an hour and 5 minutes. The longer tour is two hours and 15 minutes.
The home truly is amazing, with stairs going to nowhere, a seance room, and simply for the Victorian architecture. The tours are well thought-out and it is a beautiful place to stroll outside in their gardens.

Q: Is The Tour Scary? While we do cover some spirit folklore and stories associated with the Winchester Mystery House, the Walk with Spirits Tour is not a haunt or theme park-like experience. The tour guides will not prank, frighten, or reenact scary scenes.
9 Secret Rooms Revealed Decades Later
In 2016, the Mansion Preservation Team stumbled upon a room in the home's attic that had never been seen prior. Sarah had been trapped in this room during the earthquake of 1906. Following the event, she boarded it up and left it for good.

San Francisco lost most of its buildings in the 1906 earthquake and fire that destroyed 80% of the town. However two of the city's grand mansions did survive. The James C. Flood Mansion, built for a silver baron in 1885 out of brownstone and mortar, was the only mansion on Nob Hill that survived the earthquake.
Despite a quick response from San Francisco's large military population, the city was devastated. The earthquake and fires killed an estimated 3,000 people and left half of the city's 400,000 residents homeless.
