What happens to Dexter's son?
In Dexter: New Blood, Harrison returns as a 16-year-old, who tracked down Dexter after realising he was still alive. After arriving in Iron Lake to see Dexter, Harrison revealed to him that Hannah died of pancreatic cancer three years earlier, which caused Harrison to be placed into foster care.

In the season finale, once Angela is sure that her boyfriend Jim Lindsay a.k.a. Dexter Morgan is really the Bay Harbor Butcher, she decides to give Batista a call. Angela emails Batista a photo of her and the man known as Jim Lindsay so that Batista can confirm he is really Dexter.
"Dexter is dead." That's right: Dexter Morgan, who started a new life in upstate Iron Lake, New York, posing as regular guy Jim Lindsay, lay fully deceased in a pool of his own blood at the end of Sunday's finale, "Sins of the Father," that puts this chapter of the franchise to rest permanently.
Harrison discovering that Dexter had a Dark Passenger was what sealed their bond as father and son, but it wasn't until Dexter revealed that he also killed his victims that their relationship took another turn.
In Season 8, it was serial killer Oliver Saxon (Snรฆvar Darri Ingรณlfsson) who shot Deb in the abdomen and put her in a coma. But it was Dexter's homicidal tendencies and life choices that tragically put Deb in the line of fire.
In Dexter: New Blood, Dexter decides that Harrison has his own Dark Passenger and will become a serial killer as well - but the ending suggests that Dexter might have been wrong. At the end of Dexter season 8, Dexter fakes his own death and leaves Harrison with Hannah McKay who takes him to Argentina.

By the end of Dexter: New Blood, only four were still alive, with eight being directly murdered by Dexter.
While New Blood confirms that Miami Metro never discovered Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher after season 8, two major characters found out about his serial killer identity in season 7: Maria LaGuerta and his sister Debra Morgan.
In a voiceover, Dexter explains his dark passenger to Harrison. โSometimes, I have the urge to hurt people,โ he tells the boy. He confesses that he also saw his mother murdered when he was young, and this realization seems to be sweet relief for Harrison, who previously thought he was alone in the world.
How does Dexter get caught?
Before dinner, Angela sends the kids out for groceries. When Dexter goes in for a hug, she pulls a gun on him. The jig is finally up, as Logan storms in and cuffs him. Dexter is officially under arrest for Matt's murderโฆ but not Kurt's.
Harrison tells the police that Ethan approached him to help him in a future school shooting to kill Ethan's bullies. When Harrison tried to get him some help, Ethan stabbed him in the stomach, forcing Harrison to almost fatally cut Ethan's leg.

In the final episode of Dexterโcalled "Remember the Monsters?"โDexter's cop-sister, Deb (played by Jennifer Carpenter) was shot. In the hospital, she suffered a stroke that left her in a permanently vegetative state and ultimately, Dexter pulled her life support and dumped her body in the ocean.
Speaking to Deadline about the prospects of a renewal, Showtime's President of Entertainment Gary Levine said: โDexter is a limited series and any further discussions of Dexter will have to wait until we finish airing the limited series and see where we are with our stories and our characters.โ
Hannah assures Dexter that she won't tell his secret when she goes to trial. During Hannah's arraignment, her friend Arlene slips her a substance that causes her to have a seizure. Hannah is taken to the hospital and escapes. Before disappearing, she leaves a black orchid on Dexter's doorstep.
Harrison, who initially considered his father a superhero for killing bad guys, ultimately channels the words Dexter wrote in his letter leaving his son to Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski) after he faked his own death in the 2013 finale: โLet me die so my son can live.โ Facing death at the hands of his own son, Dexter talks ...
New Blood episode 9 kicks off with Dexter telling Harrison about the Code through a flashback of him hunting and capturing Wiggles the Clown, an unseen kill from the original series.
In the final episode, titled โSins of the Father,โ Dexter is shot and killed by his own son Harrison (Jack Alcott). Though many might've seen Dexter's death coming, it was certainly shocking that Harrison would be the one to do the deed.

From his perspective, the series finale was designed to be open-ended because it was always Showtime's intent to continue the story years later. That's exactly what happened with New Blood which picked up with Dexter a decade later living under the alias Jim Lindsay in upstate New York.
What really happened between Ethan and Harrison?
In โH Is for Hero,โ Harrison falsely claims his bullied friend Ethan (Christian Dell'Edera) stabbed him after revealing plans for a school shooting. In fact, as Dexter's bloodstain patter analysis reveals, Harrison attacked his friend from behind before stabbing himself to cover his tracks.
Harrison still has his own form of Dark Passenger boiling under the surface, whether or not he accepts his father's moral code, though he would likely have a different motivation than Dexter if he did begin killing.
Dexter follows a code of ethics taught to him in childhood by his adoptive father, Harry, which he refers to as "The Code" or "The Code of Harry" and hinges on two principles: He can only kill people after finding conclusive evidence that they are guilty of murder, and he must not get caught.
He knows that he loves his sister. He says, if you can remember back to the pilot, โIf I could love anyone, it would be Deb.โ So yes, he has strong feelings for Deb but like a brother loves a sister. THR: Dexter also sacrifices himself to save Harrison when he's on the roof with Travis.
