"Dexter is dead." That's right: Dexter Morgan, who started a new life in upstate Iron Lake, New York, posing as regular guy Jim Lindsay, lay fully deceased in a pool of his own blood at the end of Sunday's finale, "Sins of the Father," that puts this chapter of the franchise to rest permanently.
Harrison discovering that Dexter had a Dark Passenger was what sealed their bond as father and son, but it wasn't until Dexter revealed that he also killed his victims that their relationship took another turn.
In Season 8, it was serial killer Oliver Saxon (Snævar Darri Ingólfsson) who shot Deb in the abdomen and put her in a coma. But it was Dexter's homicidal tendencies and life choices that tragically put Deb in the line of fire.
In Dexter: New Blood, Dexter decides that Harrison has his own Dark Passenger and will become a serial killer as well - but the ending suggests that Dexter might have been wrong. At the end of Dexter season 8, Dexter fakes his own death and leaves Harrison with Hannah McKay who takes him to Argentina.
Debra Morgan finds out Dexter's secret.
By the end of Dexter: New Blood, only four were still alive, with eight being directly murdered by Dexter.
While New Blood confirms that Miami Metro never discovered Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher after season 8, two major characters found out about his serial killer identity in season 7: Maria LaGuerta and his sister Debra Morgan.
In a voiceover, Dexter explains his dark passenger to Harrison. “Sometimes, I have the urge to hurt people,” he tells the boy. He confesses that he also saw his mother murdered when he was young, and this realization seems to be sweet relief for Harrison, who previously thought he was alone in the world.
How does Dexter get caught?
Before dinner, Angela sends the kids out for groceries. When Dexter goes in for a hug, she pulls a gun on him. The jig is finally up, as Logan storms in and cuffs him. Dexter is officially under arrest for Matt's murder… but not Kurt's.

In the final episode of Dexter—called "Remember the Monsters?"—Dexter's cop-sister, Deb (played by Jennifer Carpenter) was shot. In the hospital, she suffered a stroke that left her in a permanently vegetative state and ultimately, Dexter pulled her life support and dumped her body in the ocean.
Speaking to Deadline about the prospects of a renewal, Showtime's President of Entertainment Gary Levine said: “Dexter is a limited series and any further discussions of Dexter will have to wait until we finish airing the limited series and see where we are with our stories and our characters.”

What really happened between Ethan and Harrison?
In “H Is for Hero,” Harrison falsely claims his bullied friend Ethan (Christian Dell'Edera) stabbed him after revealing plans for a school shooting. In fact, as Dexter's bloodstain patter analysis reveals, Harrison attacked his friend from behind before stabbing himself to cover his tracks.
Harrison still has his own form of Dark Passenger boiling under the surface, whether or not he accepts his father's moral code, though he would likely have a different motivation than Dexter if he did begin killing.
Dexter follows a code of ethics taught to him in childhood by his adoptive father, Harry, which he refers to as "The Code" or "The Code of Harry" and hinges on two principles: He can only kill people after finding conclusive evidence that they are guilty of murder, and he must not get caught.
He knows that he loves his sister. He says, if you can remember back to the pilot, “If I could love anyone, it would be Deb.” So yes, he has strong feelings for Deb but like a brother loves a sister. THR: Dexter also sacrifices himself to save Harrison when he's on the roof with Travis.
