Was McGonagall Slytherin?
McGonagall was born a half-blood witch as her father was a Muggle and her mother a witch. McGonagall began her Hogwarts education at the age of eleven and was sorted into Gryffindor after being the longest ever Hatstall between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
Professor McGonagall is head of Gryffindor house and is the Transfiguration teacher. If you've read Chapter One of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone you will know that she can turn into a tabby cat!

Upon their arrival at Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat placed Snape and Lily into Slytherin and Gryffindor Houses, respectively.
Sirius bucked the trend in the Black family by being sorted into Gryffindor as opposed to Slytherin, like the rest of his family. This marked him as being different from the off and him being a Gryffindor – coupled with a significantly more sympathetic disposition – resulted in a rocky relationship with his family.
Dumbledore began attending Hogwarts in the autumn of 1892 and was Sorted into Gryffindor house.
The Head of Slytherin is Horace Slughorn (who left the role to Severus Snape for fifteen years before taking it up again in 1996) and the House's patron ghost is the Bloody Baron.
What teacher is over Ravenclaw?
Filius Flitwick is the Charms Master at Hogwarts and the head of Ravenclaw house. He is a very short, dwarf-like man.

The story of Chamber of Secrets, as you know, is that the Heir of Slytherin has returned and he's out for Mudbloods. The Heir of Slytherin turns out to be Ginny Weasley, who is being controlled via a magical diary that once belonged to Tom Riddle, AKA Voldemort.
Why did McGonagall lock up the Slytherins?
But someone, i think it was Ernie Macmillan, spoke up and asked “what if we want to fight” at which point she amended her orders. They were sent to the dungeons because the dungeons is where their common room is. It was also because Slytherins have a bad reputation, but mostly because their common room is the dungeons.
At Hogwarts, rather than be sorted into Slytherin like the rest of his family, Sirius was placed in Gryffindor. In contrast to his home life, Sirius greatly enjoyed life at Hogwarts, where he was inseparable from his best friend, James Potter.
Obviously, the Sorting Hat decided to place Ron in Gryffindor house along with Harry and Hermione.
To no surprise, James S Potter has been sorted into Gryffindor, the house of both of his parents, Harry and Ginny Potter.
And this is why Hermione does not fit into Ravenclaw, since she lacks their creativity of thought. When you also add in her fearlessness and her strong convictions about right and wrong, which are inherently Gryffindor traits, then there was even less of a chance she'd end up wearing blue and bronze.
